Families with Children ages 4–10 years: Pilot the Math! Everywhere! App

Two children seated in a classroom engage with the MathTalk MathEverywhere app on a handheld device

Calling all young mathematicians! The Early Childhood Math Group, comprised of the Cambridge STEAM Initiative, DHSP Preschools, MathTalk, Cambridge Public Schools' Math Department, Cambridge Office of Early Childhood, Agenda for Children Literacy Initiative, and the Cambridge Public Library, supports Cambridge children in recognizing that math is all around us, fostering positive math mindsets, and becoming lifelong math learners. All of us have the ability to identify as mathematicians and experience the joy and wonder of mathematical thinking and creative problem-solving.

As part of this mission, we are seeking Cambridge families to pilot the latest version of the Math! Everywhere! app, created by MathTalk for children ages 4–10 years. In this app, you will enjoy interactive math tasks and fun augmented reality activities, all while exploring your Cambridge neighborhood. You will also earn virtual currency that you can spend at local businesses in the community!

Who can participate?
Cambridge families with children between the ages of 4 and 10.

What will you be doing?
Families will use the app with their child to explore local math adventures for 1 hour a week over the course of 10 weeks.

When and how long?
The pilot will start in mid-July and run through October.

Compensation?
Families will gain “MathBuck$,” a virtual currency that can be redeemed at participating local businesses* until the end of October.

How do you sign up?
Fill out MathTalk's Interest Form

In addition to the piloting the latest version of the Math! Everywhere! app, the Early Childhood Math Group is collaborating on Math@Home activities for caregivers with preschool-aged children and developing STEAM Library kits that feature early childhood math games, activities and books. Stay tuned for more information about these initiatives!
