Committee: Transportation, Streets, and Sidewalks
Cost: $20,000
Location: Outdoor City events for up to three years.
Short Description: Cambridge hosts many outdoor events each year. Accessible mats can lay over unpaved terrain to ensure that more people can enjoy the beautiful green space of these events. These mats support families with strollers, wheelchairs, and other mobility aids.
Long Description:
Cambridge offers many attractive and useful outdoor spaces, but many strollers and mobility devices are difficult to operate on grass, gravel, and other natural, unpaved surfaces. All people need and deserve access to Cambridge’s outdoor spaces and public events. This proposal would fund the temporary use of all-terrain mats at public events, such as Danehy Park Day, the Summer Concert Series, the Cambridge Jazz Festival, and more, to allow folks with mobility limitations to fully participate in these events.
Funding for this proposal would provide delivery and installation of all terrain mats from a local vendor. This initiative would enable people with mobility disabilities to better enjoy Cambridge’s events, programs, and outdoor spaces. People with mobility disabilities in Cambridge would have greater access to public participation, community inclusion, physical activity, and outdoor recreation.
