Dog Park Improvements ($100,000)

Location: To be determined based on need and impact

Cost: $100,000

Committee: Facilities, Parks, and Recreation

Short Description: This project will install needed improvements at a dog park, like agility equipment and improved ground cover. These improvements will help make dog parks safer and more enjoyable year-round.

Long Description: Dog parks across Cambridge have different features and conditions. Some parks have great new improvements that owners and dogs love, but many parks lack basic amenities that would make them better for everyone. Better dog parks help our community and are worth the investment—they support residents, bring neighbors together, and promote public health. By adding improvements like additional agility equipment, shade structures, better lighting, and improved ground cover, the City can create safer, easier to access, and more enjoyable spaces for thousands of dog owners. These improvements will also help parks hold up through all seasons and serve all kinds of dog owners.

These upgrades help dogs stay healthy and happy. Agility equipment creates opportunities for mental stimulation, making visits more fun and healthy, and better ground cover prevents paw injuries and reduces mud that can make parks hard to use.

Owners and families also benefit from well-designed dog parks. Safe and comfortable features encourage longer visits, reduce stress about off-leash play, and create reliable environments where owners feel confident letting their dogs socialize. These improvements help residents connect with each other, building stronger neighborhoods and a greater sense of community. By making thoughtful improvements at parks across the city, Cambridge can keep its dog-friendly spaces safe, lively, and welcoming for everyone—dogs and people alike.
