Improve Riverside Press Park Community Garden ($275,000)

Location: Riverside Press Park

Cost: $275,000

Committee: Environment

Short Description: Fix and build more garden beds and plots at the Riverside Press Community Garden.

Long Description: This project will fix an old community garden that has not been repaired in a long time. It will fix broken parts and improve the garden layout. By making better use of the space, more people will have a spot to grow their own plants. Cambridge has 14 community gardens with about 370 plots. Every garden has a long waiting list, and some people have to wait for 2 years to get a spot.

The garden needs several fixes. We need to strengthen the garden beds and fix broken water pipes. We also need to add new sides to the raised boxes to keep mice and rats out. We want to build a "Little Free Seed Bank" so neighbors can trade seeds. These repairs will help the garden last for a long time. New garden beds will also make it easier for everyone to use the space, including people with disabilities.
