Support Spaces for Artists ($120,000)

Location: Citywide for three years.

Cost: $120,000

Committee: Community Resources

Short Description: This project will provide funding for Cambridge artists in all media to access space to create art. This could include studio rental support, maker space memberships, and studio emergency costs.

Long Description: While the city of Cambridge currently provides grants once a year through the Mass Cultural Council for specific projects, it currently has no way to support artists’ access to space for the development and creation of their artistic work. This fund would enable Cambridge artists to apply for grants to support their artistic practice, and to make it possible for them to take advantage of artist space..  Artists will apply proof of their need for space. Arts organizations with available space will be invited to participate . The fund will be administered by a committee appointed by the Cambridge Arts Council. Ideally, grant applications will be reviewed and funded on a yearly basis, with flexibility as appropriate.
