On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, leaders from the City of Cambridge and the Commonwealth gathered with nonprofit Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) to mark the beginning of renovations at the former Sacred Heart church rectory and school in East Cambridge. By the end of 2027, POAH plans to complete construction on the property, which will create 46 new permanently affordable apartment homes.

The Department of Public Works and Adius Arts Initiative are presenting the fourth annual Arts in the Park event on Saturday, September 27, 2025, as part of a continued celebration of local art and The Port Infrastructure Improvements Project currently underway. The event, held at Clement Morgan Park, is aimed at highlighting the neighborhood's rich art and the infrastructure project whose construction is imminent.

The pilot program, open to Cambridge residents ages 60 and older, will operate on Thursdays and Fridays from November 6, 2025 through January 16, 2026. During the pilot, the Russell Youth and Community Center (680 Huron Ave.) will be staffed and open from 9 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. for older adults to participate in a selection of classes and to enjoy the building’s common area.

Join Tessa Bachi Haas, ICA/Boston Assistant Curator, for a deep dive into Stanley Whitney: How High the Moon, the first retrospective to trace the evolution of Stanley Whitney’s unique and powerful abstractions. In this talk, discover how Whitney developed his iconic gridded format and explore 50 years of powerful, color-saturated painting. Stanley Whitney: How High the Moon is on view at ICA/Boston now through September 1, 2025. The exhibition organized by the Buffalo AKG Art Museum and curated by Cathleen Chaffee, Charles Balbach Chief Curator, Buffalo AKG Art Museum. The ICA/Boston’s presentation is organized by Ruth Erickson, Barbara Lee Chief Curator and Director of Curatorial Affairs, with Tessa Bachi Haas, Assistant Curator. This is a hybrid event. Voting has now ended for the eleventh cycle of Participatory Budgeting in Cambridge! From March 6-16, Cambridge residents could vote on projects to improve the City in PB11. Attend the PB11 Vote Results Party on March 20, 2025 at Cambridge City Hall (795 Massachusetts Avenue) from 6:00-7:30 p.m. to hear the announcement of the winning PB11 projects! This event is free for the public, food and drink will be provided.

Linear Park, located in North Cambridge between Alewife Station and the Cambridge-Somerville city line, is a popular open space corridor for commuting and recreation. Linear Park between the Russell Field Fieldhouse and the Cambridge-Somerville city line are scheduled for reconstruction beginning in September 2025. Just A Start (JAS) is hosting their first AHO community meeting on September 11, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. to discuss plans for the proposed redevelopment at 12-14 Laurel Street as 100% affordable housing.
