The Outstanding Employee Awards program recognizes City employees nominated for superior performance, positive attitude, hard work, and dedication to public service. The Brian Murphy Award for Leadership in the Workplace and Public Service is a distinguished recognition given to leaders who display extraordinary qualities in the workplace and dedication to community service. Recipients were honored at a special ceremony on May 17.

As part of a national celebration of Public Works Week, the Department of Public Works (DPW) Commissioner Kathy Watkins and other City officials recently honored the recipients of the 2025 Commissioner’s Award for Outstanding Performance during a ceremony at the DPW yard. Congratulations to T.J. Shea, Irina Sidorenko, Steven Arruda, Charles Harkins, and Emanuel Mercury.

The Cambridge Police Department (CPD) would like to congratulate Elana Klein, who was recently recognized by the Harvard Square Business Association (HSBA) with their Public Service Award.

The City of Cambridge recently presented the 2024 Fresh Pond Stewardship Award to two former City of Cambridge Leaders, retired Deputy City Manager Lisa Peterson and retired Managing Director of Cambridge Water Department Stephen “Sam” Corda. Both recipients were honored for their long-standing commitment to and love for Fresh Pond Reservation.

Robert Lowe, Superintendent of Operations at the Cambridge Police Department, was recognized this week by the Harvard Square Business Association at their annual meeting with the “Public Service Award” for his dedicated service to the community.

The ground-breaking public-private collaboration that made it possible for Cambridge’s City operations to go carbon-free starting in 2026 has been recognized with an award from the Environmental Businesses Council of New England.

Inaugurated by the Commission in 1997, the Preservation Awards celebrate outstanding preservation projects that conserve and protect the historic built environment, provide skilled work to local designers and tradespeople, and support the environment, economy, institutions and housing stock of Cambridge.
