This Spring marks the five-year anniversary of the citywide curbside compost program. Since 2018, Cambridge residents have diverted more than 6,500 tons of food waste from the trash. To celebrate, the Department of Public Works Recycle Division has announced a new food waste drop-off waste site located across from 10 Education Circle in the Cambridge Crossing part of East Cambridge. Any resident may use this drop-off location to dispose of their food waste.

Curious about Cambridge Open Data but don't know where to start? The Cambridge Open Data Department will host a hands-on public workshop on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 6:00 PM in the Rossi Room at the Main Library, 449 Broadway. We welcome everyone interested in learning more about finding and using the City’s data. Come learn about the kinds of data we have, how to access it, and what you can do with it.

Join us for a morning walk at one of the most renowned bird watching spots in Cambridge, Mount Auburn Cemetery! We will help you identify birds, learn birdwatching tips and tricks, and familiarize yourself with migratory birds as well as those that can be spotted all year round. A limited supply of binoculars will be available. The walk will meet at the Collins Branch Library at 64 Aberdeen Ave at 10:15 am. We will walk to Mt. Auburn Cemetery together (about a five minute walk). Please try to be on time as we will leave shortly after 10:15! Registration is required. This event can only accommodate a certain number of participants. One registration is good for one person. If you do not register, you cannot participate. Those on the waitlist will be contacted if a space becomes available.

Calling all middle grade readers! Meet up in the Curious George Room every third Thursday to eat pizza and talk about books with your friends. This month's book is "The Creepening of Dogwood House" by Eden Royce. Copies will be kept behind the children's room desk for pick up. Snacks are provided. This group is for ages 10-12. Celebrate National Moth Week in style! Step 1: Drop by the Collins Branch to make a moth mask with guidance and costume advice from Cambridge Wildlife Arts. Step 2: Debut your mask on the red carpet at the second annual Cambridge Moth Ball on Wednesday, July 23 from 7:30-10 p.m at the Fresh Pond Reservation's Kingsley Park. Learn all about moths and their role in the ecosystem, participate in "mothing," and take photographs of moths. Costumes encouraged for children & adults!
