The CHA is starting the zoning and permitting process for the Modernization of Corcoran Park under the City’s new Affordable Housing Overlay (AHO). This process follows a series of resident meetings, door knocking at Corcoran Park and abutting properties, phone and text outreach to Corcoran Park residents, and August poster sessions open to the neighborhood. Please join the first virtual neighborhood meeting to learn about the project.

Treat yourself to an afternoon of fun, creativity, and community while a local artist guides us step-by-step through the process of painting a beautiful art piece, suitable for hanging on your door or wall. Tea and light refreshments provided. No experience necessary. All are welcome. Old clothing recommended, as acrylic paint can stain. Seating is limited to 8. Registration is required and will open November 24.

The DGBVPI works to improve access and use of services through community partnerships. We co-facilitate the Cambridge Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) and the DGBVPI Steering Committee. In these settings, organizations gain a deeper understanding of how DGBV shows up in different settings and collaborate to find ways to address it. We work to make sure the Cambridge community has, “no wrong door” for survivors seeking services or someone causing harm who wants to change their behavior.

Due to the temporary closure of the O'Neill Branch, this month's story time will happen at the Peabody School at 70 Rindge Ave. Please enter the building on the back side through Door 11. Put on your pajamas and come to listen to stories, read with your children, and enjoy a snack before bed! This program is recommended for children of all ages and their caregivers. Pajama Story Time is presented by the Cambridge Public Library and the Center for Families.

Due to the weather, this program will happen inside the Peabody School gym. Please enter the gym through Door 8 on Haskell St. Put on your dancing shoes for an unforgettable workshop of hula hoop magic with Kat Suwalski! You will learn basic hooping moves while increasing hand-eye coordination, strength, balance, and agility. No prior hooping experience is required. Hoops are provided. Recommended for children ages 5 and up and their caregivers. When choosing native plants, you have to ask the right questions to get the best results. Kim Eierman will help you sort out the mysteries and complexities of native plant selection including: Am I buying a genetic clone, and does it matter? What are local ecotypes and where can I buy them? Are native cultivars ok? Are dwarf nativars ecologically-useful? What’s the tradeoff with double flowers? Which native plants require pollination partners (i.e. are dioecious) and how do I source them? What are the pros and cons of planting native seeds vs. live plants? Get the answers you need to make your native landscape both beautiful and eco-beneficial. This is event is cosponsored by the Cambridge Public Library. Kim Eierman is the Founder of EcoBeneficial LLC and author of The Pollinator Victory Garden: Win the War on Pollinator Decline with Ecological Gardening. She is an ecological landscape designer and environmental horticulturist specializing in native plants.
