Join us at the Central Square Branch Library for an informational session about kidney disease followed by a free kidney-focused screening and physician consultation. This program is in partnership with the Harvard Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness Program (KDSAP) whose mission is to provide kidney focused health screenings and health education to underserved communities. The Cambridge Police Department (CPD) would like to congratulate Elana Klein, who was recently recognized by the Harvard Square Business Association (HSBA) with their Public Service Award.

Explore our outdoor world, get creative, and make sun prints (aka cyanotypes) at the Central Square Branch. A selection of flora, other natural materials, and simple found objects will be available to create a collage and then print with the sun. Or bring your own materials! Participants will have the opportunity to display their work in the Branch during the month of August. In the case of rain or inclement weather, we'll be indoors doing botanical water colors.

This is a story about “John.” If you have visited Harvard Square anytime over the last two decades, there is a good chance you have come across John. He is one of the more well-known, long-term unhoused Cambridge residents in the Harvard Square area. But you might not know where his story started and how the Cambridge Police Department, Harvard Square Business Association, Healthcare for the Homeless, and many other agencies have been coming together to support John over the years.

Drop in the Central Square Branch’s Lewis Room for extra space to study and hang out. Supplies will be provided to color, do puzzles, and play games. No registration required! The City of Cambridge does not discriminate, including on the basis of disability. Join us outdoors for story time, chalk drawing and a special summer treat! This program will take place in the Central Square Library Plaza. The City of Cambridge is preparing for two events in March that are expected to cause traffic delays and road closures in Harvard Square.

Join us at the Central Square Branch for a screening of documentary film, Sunú. Seen through the eyes of small, midsize and large Mexican maize producers, SUNÚ knits together different stories from a threatened rural world. This film documents how people realize their determination to stay free, to work the land and cultivate their seeds, to be true to their cultures and forms of spirituality, all in a modern world where corn is being threatened at the center of its origin: Mexico. Popcorn and movie snacks provided.
