The event will feature three accomplished Boston-area poets reading from a selection of some of James Merrill’s best poetry, including passages from the celebrated epic trilogy The Changing Light at Sandover as well as some of his widely appreciated narrative poems including “The Broken Home,” “The Mad Scene,” “Voices from the Other World,” “The Victor Dog,” “Lost in Translation,” and “After the Fire.”

Harvard Book Store and the Cambridge Public Library welcome Richard Russo—acclaimed author of ten novels, including the Pulitzer Prize-winner Empire Falls—for a discussion of his new novel, Under the Falls. He will be joined in conversation by Tom Perrotta—New York Times bestselling author of eleven works of fiction, including Election, Little Children, Mrs. Fletcher, The Leftovers, and Ghost Town. On Wednesday, October 8, 2025 CPD joined other community members on the lawn of City Hall for the annual Domestic Violence Vigil. The vigil is held each October during Domestic Violence Awareness Month to honor the Massachusetts women, men, and children who have tragically lost their lives during domestic violence incidents over the past year.

Understanding Deaf Culture & Everyday Signs Back by popular demand! Theresa A. King Founder & Director of SIGNING Basics® offers a deeper dive into American Sign Language. This workshop will focus on Deaf culture, common questions and misunderstandings about deafness, respectful communication practices, and practical everyday signs and short phrases. Participants will also have time to ask questions and continue the conversation that began during our previous session. This class is best for ages 10 and up.

We welcome seniors and other community members to share their thoughts, questions, and insights.

The City of Cambridge and members of the local Massachusett tribe will unveil newly installed street signs in East Cambridge that will be presented in both the Massachusett and English languages. The special event will take place on Friday, November 29 at 2 p.m. at the intersection of Third Street and Binney Street in East Cambridge (Parcel 6).

Learn about the ducks that live at Land’s Sake Farm. We will have a story time and activity, then children can touch and interact with a live duck. This program will happen outside. In case of rain or bad weather it will be inside the O'Neill Branch. This program is for children of all ages with a caregiver. Registration is required. When registering, please list how many children are attending. Adults do not need to be included in the numbers for registration

Join Navigation Games for Leprechaun Orienteering, a free and fun outdoor event for all ages at Kingsley Park in Fresh Pond Reservation. Teams of 2–4 people will travel through the park and use a special map to look for checkpoints — before tricky leprechauns move them! The event is sponsored by the City of Cambridge.

Klein Professor of Chinese History and Anthropology at Harvard, for a discussion of their new book, The Practice of Wisdom: Five Quests. They will be joined in conversation by Rev. Matthew Ichihashi Potts—Minister in the Memorial Church and Plummer Professor of Christian Morals at Harvard University. Registration is required.

The Cambridge Department of Public Works honored three DPW employees with the Ruth and Carl F. Barron Family Achievement Award on March 6, 2025. The Ruth and Carl F. Barron Family Achievement Award, established in 1992, is presented in recognition of outstanding productivity, distinguished performance and service to the City of Cambridge and Department of Public Works.
