Cambridge welcomes immigrants and works to support their success and access to opportunity and advancement. CIRC acts as a centralizing organization in Cambridge to address immigrant rights and citizenship issues by providing information, referrals, and guidance to residents seeking assistance. CIRC also coordinates and collaborates with other city departments and external organizations and individuals that support immigrant rights and citizenship.

A temporary business use sidewalk obstruction permit is required if you are a plan to temporally obstruct a City of Cambridge sidewalk. Please apply for an Annual Sidewalk Obstruction Permit if you plan to use an “A” framed sign, sandwich board, display merchandise, temporary banner or use tables and chairs on a sidewalk in the public way.

This self-guided Walking Tour highlights the dynamic history of feminist-owned businesses and organizations that emerged and thrived in Cambridge from the 1970s to the 1990s as the women’s movement sparked across the United States. Learn more about the enormous contributions women made locally to the vibrancy of the city and the movement for women’s liberation.

Harvard Book Store and the Cambridge Public Library welcome Craig Thompson—cartoonist and the author of the award-winning books Blankets, Carnet de Voyage, Good-bye Chunky Rice, and Habibi—for a discussion of his new memoir Ginseng Roots. Registration is required.

The Cambridge Community Development Department, in collaboration with other city departments and guided by the Cambridge community, will craft a vision for the future of Mass Ave between Cambridge Common and Alewife Brook Parkway. The planning study will address topics of land use, urban design, housing, climate resiliency, small business support, mobility, and public space, as well as zoning recommendations for future development.

On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, leaders from the City of Cambridge and the Commonwealth gathered with nonprofit Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) to mark the beginning of renovations at the former Sacred Heart church rectory and school in East Cambridge. By the end of 2027, POAH plans to complete construction on the property, which will create 46 new permanently affordable apartment homes.
