In advance of the holiday shopping season, the Cambridge Police Department expects reports of package thefts to increase in the coming weeks, particularly with more residents doing their shopping online.

This week's selection: Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nature, "The American Scholar," "The Divinity School Address" Reading Interests: We concentrate on Great Books in the following areas: a long novel over the summer, two sections of poetry and short stories, a book of the Bible, a Shakespeare play, an ancient and modern drama, a work of science, a smaller work of fiction, an even smaller work of fiction, and a rotating mix of politics, philosophy, and religion. Authors read in the past five years include Dickens, Keats and Yeats, O'Connor and Munro, Ecclesiastes, Sophocles and August Wilson, Darwin, Austen, Duras, The Federalist Papers, and Arendt. How to get the print book: Copies of the reading are set aside at the Main Library. Visit the Main Library at 449 Broadway during current service hours and a staff member can help you get a copy. Meeting minutes of the Public Planting Committee meeting held January 8, 2025

Cambridge Public Health Department, the Cambridge CARE Team, Cambridge Police Department, and the Access Drug User Health Program, will gather to recognize and remember the lives lost to opioid overdoses.

The Citywide Growth Management Advisory Committee (CGMAC) addressed concerns expressed by the community about future density and traffic growth, the need for more housing, including affordable units, and opportunities for public review of large projects.  The Committee recoemmeded a series of significant zoning changes.

In 2010, the City of Cambridge Community Development Department began a study to explore ways to improve the character of “North Mass Ave” from Beech Street to the Arlington line, with the goal of developing recommendations for improvements that address zoning and urban design objectives.

The Baker-Polito Administration issued an order requiring the use of masks or face coverings in public places (beginning May 6th) where they cannot socially distance from others. The Administration also announced expanded community health center COVID-19 testing capacity at centers throughout the Commonwealth.
