Meeting minutes of the Avon Hill Neighborhood Conservation District Commission meeting held March 28, 2022

As part of the City of Cambridge’s Shade Is Social Justice program, temporary public art structures are being installed to provide shade and seating across the community to further the city’s efforts to address our warming world.

The Cottage/Lopez Drainage Improvements Project includes design of new storm drain infrastructure to alleviate flooding in the Cambridgeport neighborhood.

Celebrate reading with fellow new readers at the Valente Branch Library! We will explore a book from the Beginning Reader collection, spend time reading together, and do an activity! Copies of the book will be provided via the library; participants may check out a copy to take home after the program. This is open to students in kindergarten through second grade who are practicing reading independently; their grown-ups are welcome to join us. Registration is required. This event has been moved to the Community Room on L2 at the Main Library, located at 449 Broadway, due to the temporary closing of the Valente Branch. Join us for an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) class! This class will be taught at a beginner level. No testing is needed. Everyone is welcome. Join herbalist Mo Katz-Christy for a meander through the neighborhood to meet city plants and explore their medicinal uses! We will explore weeds and cultivated plants, trees and shrubs, and have lots of space for questions and conversation. Bring a notebook if you like, and meet us at the Central Square Branch Library. Note this program begins at the library but will then walk throughout the neighborhood -- arriving late may mean you miss the group at the library and will not be able to catch up.

Learn about the rabbits raised at Land’s Sake. This program includes a rabbit-themed story time, learning about rabbit behavior and anatomy, and a rabbit themed game. The highlight of the program is the Bunny Circle, where youth are able to touch and interact with live rabbits. This program is recommended for children ages 4 and up. Children under the age of 7 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required - please register the total number of children who will be in your group.
