North Cambridge, is a diverse neighborhood of over eleven thousand residents in an approximately 0.85 square mile area in the northernmost part of the city and bordered by Alewife Brook Reservation, the city of Somerville, the town of Arlington, and railroad tracks currently used by the Fitchburg Commuter Rail Branch of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA).

Every month we will read and discuss a short story as a group. This months story is "Uncle Robert Rides the Lightning" by Kate Hart, included in the anthology Never Whistle at Night. No preparation needed! Copies of the story will be available for pick up at the Central Square Branch. Registration is helpful but not required!

The end of March marked five years since Mitchel Iviquel was last seen by her family, but despite all the time that has passed Cambridge Police are still working to locate her. An Army Veteran who had been deployed overseas, Iviquel was thought to be unhoused in the Central Square area at the time of her disappearance.

The dance extravaganza with DJ spun music is a special opportunity for the entire Cambridge community to celebrate the start of summer. After dark, colorful lights will be launched, adding to the magic of the evening. New this year, the Cambridge Play Streets initiative and Central Square Business Improvement District will be providing free interactive activities for families at the corner of Temple Street and Mass Ave.

Join the Cambridge Public Library and the International School of Boston as they collaborate to host a French story time and a music-and-movement session where children will sing, move, enjoy a classic book read aloud in French, and create a small craft to take home. Parents will walk away with simple, effective tips to support interactive reading at home. No prior French experience is needed; this program is designed to spark curiosity, build cultural awareness, and make language learning joyful for all! Recommended for youth ages 3 to 6 years with their caregiver. Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis on the day of the program. Welcome to the River Street Construction Webpage! This is the place to find current information and updates related to construction of the River Street Infrastructure and Streetscape Project. The project includes utility and surface reconstruction of the following streets and public spaces: • River Street from Memorial Drive to Massachusetts Avenue • Carl Barron Plaza (the major public space at the intersection of River Street/Western Ave/Mass Ave in Central Square) • The MBTA bus stops and busway at Magazine/Green/River Street adjacent to Carl Barron Plaza • Pleasant Street and Tubman Square between Pleasant Place and River Street • Green Street between Magazine and Pearl Street • Magazine Street between Franklin and Green Street • Blackstone Street In addition, the project includes the following nearby neighborhood streets which are due for reconstruction under the City's Five Year Sidewalk and Street Reconstruction Plan • Fairmont Avenue / Fairmont Street / Rockwell Street / Laurel Street / Kelly Road

The next bird watching walk will be held on Friday, July 18th at 10:15 a.m. You can register for that walk at this link: https://cambridgepl.libcal.com/calendar/publicevents/JulyBird Join us for a morning walk at one of the most renowned birdwatching spots in Cambridge, Mount Auburn Cemetery! We will help you identify birds, learn birdwatching tips and tricks, and familiarize yourself with migratory birds as well as those that can be spotted all year round. A limited supply of binoculars will be available. The walk will meet at the Collins Branch Library at 64 Aberdeen Ave at 10:15 a.m. We will walk to Mt. Auburn Cemetery together (about a five minute walk). Please try to be on time as we will leave shortly after 10:15! Registration is required. This event can only accommodate a certain number of participants. One registration is good for one person. If you do not register, you cannot participate. Those on the waitlist will be contacted if a space becomes available.

Just A Start Corporation (JAS), a local non-profit affordable housing provider, purchased 1826 and 1840 Massachusetts Avenue, two surface parking lots, from Lesley University in late November 2024. Located in the Neighborhood Nine neighborhood, the site is in close proximity to the many amenities of Porter Square including restaurants, retail and the MBTA station. JAS is planning to create new affordable housing at the sites under the provisions of the Affordable Housing Overlay (AHO).
