To prevent our portal from turning into a "data graveyard" filled with obsolete data, we're introducing a draft Open Data Retirement Policy—and your feedback is crucial.

Transportation Demand Management (TDM) encourage people to switch from driving alone to walking, biking, taking buses and trains, carpooling, and other sustainable transportation options. The City encourages TDM to help more people get around Cambridge without creating more traffic and greenhouse gas emissions. These and other goals are described in Envision Cambridge.

Our community has experienced many impacts and hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and has witnessed the resiliency and generosity of our city. The City of Cambridge is notifying residents, businesses, and visitors of multiple temporary street closures throughout Fourth of July weekend due to several large community events. These include the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, the Fourth of July Weekend Block Party and Vintage Market, and the US Army’s 250th Birthday celebration.

The City of Cambridge requires that trash, recycling, and compost bins be placed on the sidewalk at 6 p.m. or later on the evening prior to curbside collection day. If you are a Cambridge resident with disabilities that prevent you from following this ordinance, you can apply for an exemption.

The City of Cambridge and Cambridge Public Health Department (CPHD) will continue to offer free COVID-19 testing for Cambridge residents 4 days per week on with modified hours Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The site at 50 Church St. that previously offered testing will be discontinued beginning in June.

The MBTA’s Track Improvement Program aims to eliminate all speed restrictions on the Red Line and to bring the tracks to a state of good repair. Work on the Red Line will result in closures, and the City of Cambridge will update this page whenever a new closure is expected.

The City of Cambridge Fossil Fuel Free Ordinance is effective March 22, 2024. The ordinance requires new buildings and major renovation projects to be fossil fuel-free. Fossil fuel-free means not using oil, gas, propane, or other fossil fuels. The requirements apply to both residential and non-residential building projects.

Violence prevention requires an investment of resources, people, leadership and commitment. It can be a complex problem that requires comprehensive solutions and participation from multiple stakeholders. The City of Cambridge recognizes the importance of collaboration and the commitment required to best support this critical work, which often involves our youth and young adults.
