Brookline Street reconstruction project, completed Fall 2010, included sidewalk replacement, repaving, and replacement of the water and sewer lines. Design improvements included traffic calming, safer pedestrian crossings, bicycle lanes and the addition of many more street trees.

The City of Cambridge and Divco West, developer of NorthPoint, will be undertaking construction on Gore Street between Monsignor O’Brien Highway and Warren Street. This construction is an opportunity to incorporate improvements into Gore Street; sidewalks, crosswalks, street trees improved access to the park, etc.

Join the Collins Branch Library in collaboration with the Cambridge Climate Leaders Initiative for a monthly discussion of a climate-related topic. Each month the group will discuss a book on the topic at hand then hear about a related local program or initiative and how you can take action. Topic: Trees and Climate Resilience Book: Twelve Trees: The Deep Roots of Our Future by Daniel Lewis. Meetings will be held on the second Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m. Copies of the book will be available at the Collins Branch during library hours. Greene-Rose Heritage Park lies along Harvard Street near the intersection with Moore Street. There is also an access point from Broadway near the intersection with Windsor Street. The park was expanded and renovated in 2008 and now includes a children’s playground, water play area, open field, benches, landscaping and trees, and public art installations.

Raymond Park, located at 106 Raymond Street in Neighborhood Nine, is scheduled for renovations beginning in November 2025. Planned improvements include: Improved circulation and more accessible pathways New playground equipment An expanded basketball court Drainage improvements and rain gardens Additional seating and gathering areas New trees and plantings Learn more about the community and design process here.

Get in the winter spirit with Pop Up Art School! Create a cozy winter scene that glows with warmth and creativity! In this mixed-media art lesson you'll craft a charming snowy landscape featuring a glowing paper house nestled among wooly trees. A perfect display during those cold, dark months of winter. All supplies will be provided.

We’re looking for people to host trees as part of an innovative community art piece. Cambridge residents are invited to adopt a young apple tree as part of a project to give new life to a beloved apple tree that was removed as part of the reconstruction of the City of Cambridge's Tobin Montessori and Darby Vassall Upper Schools complex. 

Did you know you can vote for a winner in the Massachusetts Children's Book Award each year? Join us the 1st Wednesday of each month as we read and discuss some of the MCBA nominated books. Cast your vote for your favorite nominated title, right here at the library. This program is for kids in 4th, 5th and 6th grade (or equivalent ages). Registration is required. As part of the Five-Year Street and Sidewalk Reconstruction Plan, Huron Ave, from Fresh Pond Place to Fresh Pond Parkway, is scheduled for reconstruction. This project will include paving, sidewalk improvements and utility installations. Cushing Plaza, located at Cushing Street and Huron Avenue, is scheduled for reconstruction to allow stormwater to infiltrate and provide enhanced biochar and compost soil for the new trees and garden plantings.
