Community Safety Meeting
This meeting is part of the Mayor’s ongoing commitment to keeping the public informed about efforts to ensure community safety. We will provide updates on the investigations into the shootings that occurred earlier this summer and share information about the City’s continued initiatives to reduce violence. Residents will have the opportunity to ask questions, express concerns, and engage in dialogue. This meeting aims to foster community involvement in identifying and implementing effective strategies to decrease violence and enhance safety in our city.
CHANGE OF VENUE: Park Sounds: Robin Byrde (Main)
Due to the heat emergency declared by the City of Cambridge, this performance has been moved to the Lecture Hall on Level 2 of the Main Library. Robin Byrde is a Boston-based singer-songwriter who enjoys making music in many different genres including pop, rock, folk, and soul. Originally from Southwest Virginia, Robin moved to Boston in 2017 to pursue a degree in opera performance before finding their own unique voice and style. You can often find Robin busking in the Public Garden or the Downtown Crossing T station; don't be afraid to come up and say hello! PARK SOUNDS 2026 brings free outdoor musical performances featuring local artists to the front lawn of the Cambridge Public Library Main Branch. These events are all-ages. Bring a chair, food, and loved ones to celebrate the summer! Funding is provided by the CPL Foundation in memory of Janet Axelrod.
Huron Ave Safety Improvement Project
The City of Cambridge is installing separated bike lanes on Huron Ave between the Fresh Pond Reservation and Belmont Cemetery.
MAPS Working Group
The Mass Ave Planning Study Working Group will meet to discuss community feedback from Round 2 and provide input on the draft recommendations for South of Porter Square study area. Additionally, there will be a conversation with development experts on development feasibility currently, and the in the future, on Mass Ave.
Pools and Swimming Resources
Residents can enjoy the two indoor pools at the War Memorial Recreation Center (1640 Cambridge St.) year-round. Gold Star Pool (123 Berkshire St.) is on outdoor pool open to the public during summer months.
Cambridge Urban Forestry Division Celebrates 2024 Milestones
In 2024, the Urban Forestry Division of Cambridge Public Works planted 1,250 new trees and removed 5,000 square feet of pavement to create better planting conditions, enhancing the city's green infrastructure. The Division maintained a strong tree survival rate, with only 3.5% mortality for spring plantings, and expanded community engagement through the revamped Cambridge Urban Forest Friends newsletter, which saw over 105% subscriber growth. Residents can support the city's urban forest by becoming an Urban Forest Friend or subscribing to the newsletter.
