The Environmental and Transportation Planning Division is responsible for improving the city's quality of life, by working to protect and improve the city's environment and natural resources and by planning improvements to the city's transportation system.

Let’s make our schools, libraries, and public buildings more accessible for all by adding automatic door openers to entries that are wheelchair accessible but lack this feature. The City will work with the Disabilities Commission to prioritize locations.

In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of sewing machine operation and safety. This session will cover machine setup, basic functions, threading the machine, reloading the bobbin, sewing straight stitches, and recognizing when stitch tension has gone awry. We’ll also cover some safety best practices when operating a sewing machine. As we learn together, we’ll work on a simple sewing project—a drawstring bag—which most students will be able to complete by the end of the class. At the start of this class, participants will complete Hive Safety Training.

Join the Council on Aging for a weekly Spanish Lessons class designed to help you explore a new language and culture in a fun and supportive environment. The class is open to Cambridge residents age 60 and older.

Join instructor Ellen DeGenova, at the main branch park, to explore Tai Chi elements (without the complicated choreography). Tai Chi offers highly adaptable and accessible ways of moving for everyone. Being outdoors and learning together inspires a sense of well-being and community. A seated option is available. No experience necessary. In case of inclement weather, class will be held in the library’s Community Room.

Sudan has been embroiled in a civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Once allies in Sudan’s transitional government, tensions over the country’s political future and plans to integrate the RSF into the regular military led to open fighting in 2023. More than three years later, the war continues with devastating consequences for civilians, including widespread death, displacement, and food insecurity, creating a severe humanitarian crisis. Join Professor Mai Hassan, Associate Professor of Political Science at MIT and Faculty Director of the MIT-Africa Program, for a conversation about the origins and ongoing consequences of the war, its humanitarian impact, and the challenges facing Sudan’s future.
