You’re invited to our September Brewery Book Club, where Lamplighter and the Cambridge Public Library team up to highlight contemporary works from marginalized voices while having a beer. We meet at Lamplighter Brewing Co., 284 Broadway, in the back taproom. This month we’ll read I Leave It Up to You by Jinwoo Chong. Copies of the book are available at the Main Library Q&A Desk. The e-book and digital audiobook can be borrowed through the Libby app. We’ll gather in the Lamplighter back taproom to discuss the book, what we learned from it, what we found ourselves touched by, and all other thoughts. The City of Cambridge is taking another step toward reducing noise and air pollution by officially prohibiting the use of gas-powered leaf blowers and requiring all users to transition to electric or battery-powered leaf blowers. This initiative aligns with the city’s commitment to protecting public health and reducing harmful emissions.

Hundreds of Cambridge residents have learned they were infected with COVID-19 or had been exposed to the new coronavirus after getting a call from public health nurses from the Cambridge Public Health Department (CPHD). Thousands more have received calls from CPHD staff informing them of negative test results.

The Baker-Polito Administration announced a new initiative, the Vax Express, to help further increase access to the COVID-19 vaccine, particularly in communities with low vaccination rates. The Vax Express aims to further increase the Commonwealth’s vaccination rate by offering a unique, and community-focused approach to encourage more people to get vaccinated. Massachusetts continues to be a national leader in vaccination rates with 80 percent of adults having received at least one dose and over 3.9 million residents fully vaccinated.

The Board of Zoning Appeal (BZA) has an important role in decisions that help shape the use and appearance of buildings in our community. Under the Cambridge Zoning Ordinance, certain uses and types of development may require a variance, special permit, or a comprehensive permit from the BZA, a quasi-judicial body that conducts public hearings on all applications and appeals before it and issues decisions. The Board also hears appeals of Zoning Determinations made by the Inspectional Services Department.

What's a zine? And how do I make one? Come find out! Kids are invited to explore making, copying, sharing, and swapping zines. Making zines will include activities like writing, drawing, and using a photocopier. For kids ages 7 and up. Snacks are provided! This week we will host guest artist Betsey Swardlick! Betsey Swardlick is a Providence-based cartoonist, teacher, and professional wrestler all struggling to live in the same body! WHO WILL WIN?? Betsey likes to make humorous comics about weirdos trying their best (or worst), fake newspapers, and assorted other multimedia spectacles.
