Kids' Zine Collective (O'Neill)
What's a zine? And how do I make one? Come find out! Kids are invited to explore making, copying, sharing, and swapping zines. Making zines will include activities like writing, drawing, and using a photocopier. For kids ages 7 and up. Snacks are provided! This week we will host guest artist Betsey Swardlick! Unveiling of Native Spaces - Indigenous Street Signs Project
The City of Cambridge and members of the local Massachusett tribe will unveil newly installed street signs in East Cambridge that will be presented in both the Massachusett and English languages.
City of Cambridge Closures, Service and Traffic Information for Independence Day Holiday on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4
City of Cambridge offices, libraries, and senior centers will be closed on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4 in observance of the Independence Day holiday. The hours for the Gold Star Pool on Berkshire Street have been extended Thursday, July 2 - Sunday, July 5 (including July 4th) from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. In the event that the pool reaches capacity, swim times may be limited. Curbside collection of trash, recycling, food waste, and yard waste will still take place on Friday, July 3. If you are going to enjoy the fireworks and Boston Pops show from the Cambridge side, plan ahead and make sure you bring lawn and beach chairs, and water to stay hydrated.
Apply for an Excavation Permit
An Excavation and Trench Permit is required if you are excavating or trenching on private property or in a public right-of-way in the City of Cambridge.
Magic Tree House Book Group (O'Connell/Virtual)
Our Magic Tree House book group for kids ages 5-10 meets the first Friday of the month. Pick up a copy of the book beforehand. Our November book is Magic Tree House #3, "Mummies in the Morning." This event is onsite at O'Connell, with the option to attend virtually. A Zoom link will be sent to all registered participants 1 hour before the event. Need a laptop or hotspot to participate? Cambridge Launches Rise Up Cambridge
The City of Cambridge announced that on June 1, 2023, it will begin accepting applications for a new initiative called Rise Up Cambridge, which aims to alleviate poverty among struggling families in the city by building financial security. Rise Up will provide approximately 2,000 eligible families with $500 per month for 18 months.
