Join Earthwise Aware for a thought-provoking workshop examining how land use and climate change influence the design, function, and future of urban green spaces. Starting at the library’s front lawn, we will explore how conventional designs can undermine biodiversity and tree health. What makes a space truly nature-friendly? Can a lawn, sidewalk, or plaza be transformed into habitat? We will compare low-functioning green spaces with examples of micro-forests, native plantings, and meadows. Along the way, we will observe seasonal changes in plants and wildlife through the lens of phenology, the study of nature’s calendar. We will also introduce simple participatory science tools that help monitor habitat quality, foster community engagement, and inform better decisions. Even a modest native plant patch can be a pocket of resilience. Come learn how to spot, support, and reimagine urban nature that works with the ecosystem, not just mimics it. The program will start with a workshop in the Rossi Room, then move outside to Joan Lorentz Park. Registration required.

Sacred Songs and Rituals brings Kendra Comstock, soprano, and Charles Iner, lute, to explore Catholic persecution during the English Renaissance and the forms of secret musical resistance Catholic musicians created during this time. Sacred Songs and Rituals is a Cambridge Public Library music series celebrating the divine in the many cultures found in Cambridge.

Join the Cambridge Public Library for a screening of The Next Dream, an independent documentary about more than one million Temporary Protected Status (TPS) families across the U.S., who are at risk of deportation and family separation. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with members of the National TPS Alliance and the film's producers. Come and meet members of the TPS families, learn about their struggles, and discuss how we may support our neighbors across the country. To learn more about this project, please click here. Are you curious about the hype around artificial intelligence (AI)? Are you concerned about the environmental impact of AI and wondering what can be done about it? Join Dr. Noman Bashir as he discusses his work and answers your questions about the environmental implications of generative AI. Dr. Bashir is currently a Computing & Climate Impact Fellow at MIT's Climate & Sustainability Consortium (MCSC) as well as a postdoctoral researcher at the MIT Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). Noman Bashir holds a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His research focuses on designing, prototyping, and analyzing experimental computer systems that enable decarbonizing societal-scale systems, such as computing systems, electric grids, buildings, and transportation.

This month's book is Dogtown by Katherine Applegate and Gennifer Choldenko. In Dogtown, a shelter for unwanted canine and robot dogs, an extraordinary bond develops between Chance, a longing three-legged dog, Metalhead, an empathetic robot, and Mouse, their friendly ally, as they strive to find forever homes.
