As part of the City of Cambridge’s Shade Is Social Justice program, temporary public art structures are being installed to provide shade and seating across the community to further the city’s efforts to address our warming world.

Don’t think you have what it takes to use a sewing machine? Think again! In this FREE workshop, teens from the Cambridge Community Art Center will teach you how to properly thread a machine, sew a straight stitch, hem and unfinished edge, and secure your stitches. Practice by sewing colorful shapes onto small flags. Following the workshop, the flags will be made into a banner and displayed at the Library. No experience necessary. Join local author Clare Walker Leslie (How to Look at a Bird, Keeping a Nature Journal) to learn how to draw Cambridge birds! Participants will discuss birds local to Cambridge, learn how to draw the birds they see every day, and leave the program with their own finished bird drawing. All drawing and reference materials will be provided and all skill levels are welcome, no previous drawing experience required. If you don't think you can draw a bird, that's okay - this event will show you that you can! Registration is required for this program. This program is suggested for participants ages 8 and up.

The Cambridge Police Department announced the promotions of 7 members to Lieutenants and Sergeants on October 18, 2024. At a ceremony held at the Cambridge Police Department, Police Commissioner Christine Elow promoted two officers to Lieutenants and five to Sergeants.
