COVID-19 Remembrance Memorial Dedication Rescheduled for Thursday, October 28
The City of Cambridge invites community members to join Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui and City Manager Louis A. DePasquale for the dedication of the City’s COVID-19 Remembrance Memorial. This dedication has been rescheduled for Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. A brief ceremony will be held at the Memorial site inside the main gate of the Cambridge Cemetery, at 76 Coolidge Avenue.
Clothing & Textiles Recycling
The City of Cambridge offers free weekly curbside textiles collection, as well as drop-off bins at select locations. To schedule your free pick-up, use the Clothing/Textiles Collection tool below. Approximately, 95% of textiles and accessories could be reused/repurposed. This initiative supports the city's goals of reducing waste and is launched in accordance with recommendations from the City's Zero Waste Master Plan.
Cambridge Police Department Members Recognized by US Attorney’s Office for Outstanding Collaboration
Cambridge Police Detective Lester Sullivan, Detective Matthew Grassi, Lieutenant Thomas Ahern (Ret.), and Forensic Identification Specialist Brooke Miller received the Outstanding Collaboration Award at the 2024 Law Enforcement Award Ceremony in Boston. Each year, the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts hosts a ceremony to recognize outstanding public service by the agents, officers, and community leaders with whom they work alongside.
Central Square Rezoning - Community Meeting 3
Please join the Central Square Rezoning Project team for our final community meeting regarding potential updates to the zoning for Central Square. This meeting will begin with a presentation by City staff focusing on what we've heard thus far and how that has informed the preliminary zoning recommendations. It will be followed by a robust public discussion where community members can share their feedback and input.
Face Coverings
The City of Cambridge issued an emergency order requiring that face masks or coverings be worn in indoor public places. The order takes effect at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, September 3, 2021. It applies to everyone over the age of two years old, with exceptions in alignment with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health guidelines.
71 Cherry Street
The Cambridge Redevelopment Authority (CRA), in partnership with the Margaret Fuller Neighborhood House (MFNH), plans to develop a portion of the MFNH lot, located at 71 Cherry Street, into new affordable homeownership units. This development will happen in conjunction with the revitalization of the MFNH. The CRA plans on creating these new housing units under the provisions of the Affordable Housing Overlay (AHO).
10 - West Cambridge
West Cambridge, also referred to as Neighborhood Ten, is a relatively low-density residential neighborhood with about eight thousand residents. The neighborhood is located west of Harvard Square and bordered by Concord Avenue, the Charles River, Fresh Pond Reservation, and a portion of the former Watertown Branch railroad line. Historic Mount Auburn Cemetery is located at the southwestern edge of the neighborhood.
