City Manager's Message
Rising housing costs have become an ever-present challenge to everyone in our city, from young people building lives in our community, to families seeking more space for children, to seniors trying to stay close to family and friends. This issue will provide a broad overview of our key housing-related commitments, initiatives, and investments.
Swinging in the City
Install six to eight porch swings in public squares and parks around Cambridge for residents of all ages to have fun and enjoy the experience of being a kid again!
Trees, please
Let’s plant 100 trees around Cambridge to combat heat, provide shade cover, and reduce carbon emissions all while contributing to a healthier, happier Cambridge.
MBTA Red Line Closures
The MBTA’s Track Improvement Program aims to eliminate all speed restrictions on the Red Line and to bring the tracks to a state of good repair. Work on the Red Line will result in closures, and the City of Cambridge will update this page whenever a new closure is expected.
Outdoor Area
This application is for those requesting a temporary extension of your licensed premises to include an outdoor area or expand an existing outdoor area (public, private or both) to serve food or food and alcohol pursuant to the provisions of your current license and the Commonwealth’s Phased Reopening Plan due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Detail Office
The Detail/Off-Duty Employment Office is responsible for assigning off-duty officers to construction sites throughout the City to ensure motor vehicle and pedestrian safety.
