Man Arrested Following Fatal Stabbing in Cambridge
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Cambridge Police Commissioner Christine Elow have confirmed that Victor Rivas, 51, of South Boston has been arrested and charged with assault and battery, dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury following a fatal stabbing that occurred last night inside of a residential building on Norfolk Street in Cambridge.
City of Cambridge Encourages Residents to "Pick It Up, Cambridge"
The City of Cambridge, in partnership with the local business community, is launching “Pick It Up, Cambridge,” a social media and print campaign to encourage patrons to call direct and pick up their orders to help business owners retain the full value of their product and support local eateries.

City of Cambridge to Lift Remaining COVID-19 Restrictions
The City of Cambridge announced that, with the Commonwealth's State of Emergency ending on June 15, 2021, and the significant improvements in public health metrics, it will align with the Commonwealth in lifting the City’s remaining COVID-19 restrictions on Saturday, May 29, 2021 and will rescind its March 19, 2020 Declaration of Public Health Emergency in Cambridge effective June 15, 2021. Due to the rescission of the City’s Declaration of Public Health Emergency, the City’s Temporary Eviction Moratorium as amended on July 23, 2020 will also be rescinded, effective June 15, 2021.
Cambridge Police Department Promotes 11 Members to Lieutenants and Sergeants
The Cambridge Police Department announced the promotions of 11 members to Lieutenants and Sergeants on April 1, 2024. At a ceremony held in the Sullivan Chamber at Cambridge City Hall, City Manager Yi-An Huang and Police Commissioner Christine Elow promoted five officers to Lieutenants and six to Sergeants.
Efforts, Collaboration Continue to Expand Afterschool Options for Cambridge Families
The Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) is working to create a more equitable afterschool application and enrollment process while expanding access for Cambridge families. For the 2024-2025 school year, 1,486 students received an offer to a DHSP afterschool program, with 90% placed in their first choice, and a 7% increase in applicants from the income priority group. DHSP has also added 246 new seats across programs, launched an OST Expansion Study to support long-term growth, and continues to center caregiver perspectives through the Caregiver Council.
