Participatory Budgeting is a democratic process that empowers community members to decide how to spend part of a public budget. In June and July 2022, community members submitted 1,320 ideas on how to spend $1 million of the City of Cambridge’s FY24 Capital Budget. From August to November, over 70 volunteer PB Delegates worked on five committees to research and evaluate those ideas and develop 20 final proposals for the PB ballot.

Together we'll explore emerging trends in deepfakes and AI-generated content, real-world case studies of scams and misinformation, and practical strategies for protecting ourselves, our families, and our communities. This report examines the feasibility of the City of Cambridge implementing a municipal fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) service and finds that for the City to construct an FTTP network and establish a financially sustainable business—meaning one that covers its costs and generates a reasonable rate of return over a long period—a significant public contribution would be required. In a base-case scenario that applies conservative construction cost assumptions and reasonable revenue projections, the network could require an upfront public capital contribution of $150 million.

The transformation of the historic Foundry Building at 101 Rogers Street is nearing completion following COVID related construction delays and is expected to open this fall. This massive brick building, originally constructed as an iron foundry in 1889, is an adaptive reuse project that will reopen as a self-sustaining center for creativity and collaboration for the Cambridge community.
