A 30-year-old Cambridge man was safely taken into custody and then transported to a local hospital last night following a reported armed assault. After the armed assault, he barricaded himself in his home until Cambridge Police officers were able to successfully enter and place the man into custody.

The Cambridge Police Department has a Family and Social Justice section that focuses on connecting with and directing resources to our most vulnerable populations. During the cold-weather months, this work is even more critical. FSJS builds relationships and trust all year to increase the chances our unhoused will consider assistance.

Four notable public safety responses have occurred since Friday. Each response involved residents who were struggling with mental health issues. Three of the four involved residents were armed. Each situation was resolved peacefully without any injuries to anyone involved and the residents were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment.

As the city reopens, many residents are looking for ways to enjoy the summer while staying as safe as possible.

The Irving and Scott Streets reconstruction project includes traffic calming elements to reduce vehicle speeds and enhance safety for pedestrians.
