The Cambridge Police Department is enhancing its ongoing traffic safety education and enforcement by participating in a Pedestrian/Bicyclist Safety Campaign in November. The state grant funds we secured will help add additional staffing resources throughout the city to promote additional safety. CPD works all year to educate and enforce traffic safety as we receive community feedback and input from other city agencies on potential issues. We also focus on areas where there have been traffic pattern changes.

Fun Skate, an annual program offered by Recreation and Cambridge Public Schools, provides weekly skating lessons to Cambridge public elementary school students. This year, Fun Skate expects to serve close to 800 children through a program expansion that includes weekly visits to 2nd grade classrooms as part of Physical Education curriculum.

The City of Cambridge has partnered with Cambridge Bike Give Back (CBGB) to help eligible Cambridge residents get refurbished bicycles. You can help in this effort by donating your unwanted bikes for refurbishing and CBGB will pass them on to a person or persons in need. Cambridge Bike Give Back will be collecting bike donations on Sunday, June 15, from 11am to 2pm, at Green Rose Heritage Park. Thanks in advance for your help and support!

The State has announced that Cambridge and the Northeast Region of the Commonwealth has been downgraded from a Level 1 – Mild Drought to Level 0 - Normal Conditions.

Due to anticipated inclement weather on Saturday, two City of Cambridge events (Hoops 'N' Health and The United States 250th Anniversary celebration) originally scheduled for this weekend have been postponed.

The Walden Square Inflow and Infiltration (I&I) Project is located in the vicinity of 99 Sherman Street. The City has designated this area for redesign to help reduce the amount of storm water that goes into the city drainage system in order to prevent flooding during heavy rain events. The I&I project at Walden Square encompasses three parcels of land with the first parcel being the surface parking lot at Danehy Park, the second being the roadway at Sherman Street, and the third being the surface lot at the Walden Square Apartments.

You’re invited to our September Brewery Book Club, where Lamplighter and the Cambridge Public Library team up to highlight contemporary works from marginalized voices while having a beer. We meet at Lamplighter Brewing Co., 284 Broadway, in the back taproom. This month we’ll read I Leave It Up to You by Jinwoo Chong. Copies of the book are available at the Main Library Q&A Desk. The e-book and digital audiobook can be borrowed through the Libby app. We’ll gather in the Lamplighter back taproom to discuss the book, what we learned from it, what we found ourselves touched by, and all other thoughts. On May 1, 2023, the City Manager submitted the proposed Operating and Capital Budgets for Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24), as well as the proposed FY24-FY28 Operating and Capital Plans. The Operating Budget of $881,757,885 represents an increase of $80,306,015 or 10% over the FY23 Adopted Budget. The proposed Capital Budget is $185,206,905. The public is encouraged to review the budget document, which includes Consolidated Spending information across departments on key priority areas; City Council Goals; Key Initiatives for FY24 (Section I); narratives for each Department (Section V); and FY24 Capital projects (Section VI). There will be public hearings on the FY24 Budget at the City Council Finance Committee on Tuesday, May 9 at 9 a.m., Wednesday, May 10 at 6 p.m. (School Department), and Tuesday, May 16 at 10 a.m.
