Cambridge’s small business programs are helping local shops thrive while transforming neighborhoods into vibrant spots to connect with others and celebrate community.

This article focuses on the amendments that were added two new protected classes -- family structure and relationship status -- to our local ordinances.

Beginning Friday, February 27, CYP is launching Community Friday Nights, a weekly program designed to bring neighbors of all ages together in a welcoming and positive environment. Join us at Russell Youth and Community Center every Friday from 6 - 8 p.m. for an evening filled with engaging activities, meaningful connections, and opportunities to build stronger relationships within the neighborhood and across the city.

The City of Cambridge is notifying residents, businesses, and visitors of multiple temporary street closures throughout Fourth of July weekend due to several large community events. These include the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, the Fourth of July Weekend Block Party and Vintage Market, and the US Army’s 250th Birthday celebration.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) is installing 200 new fully enclosed BigBelly bins starting in September 2025 to combat rodent activity and prevent litter. These new bins, which include both trash and recycling stations, will replace almost all of the open-top trash cans currently in the city.

Members of the community are invited to shop for paintings, prints, clothing, ceramics, and all sorts of locally-made creations from nearly 80 artists.
