Today marks the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency in Massachusetts and the country. The City of Cambridge marked this somber occasion with an event at the COVID-19 memorial located at the Cambridge Cemetery. Cambridge Peace Commission Executive Director Brian Corr, Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui, City Manager Yi-An Huang, and Chief Public Health Officer Derrick Neil spoke at the event and placed flowers next to the memorial.

Join us for a discussion with 5 Black men working restoratively in different contexts: at home with family, through meditation and yoga, on the sports field, in business, and in the courts providing health and mental wellness. How and why have these men chosen to create a Restorative climate inside institutions that have a history of violence against Black men and what tools are they using to keep the fire for this practice alive outside of the Talking Circle? Panelists include Sam Williams, a yogi, professor and healer; Damon Banks, a Social Worker and Chief Probation Officer; Omo Moses, the CEO of Math Talk and the author of The White Peril; Herman Banks, an educator and consultant; and Vinson Givans, a mitigation manager and football coach. The conversation will be moderated by Indi Wit The Tea, a journalist and media personality. This event is cosponsored by Cambridge Public Library.

CAMBRIDGE – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Cambridge Police Commissioner Pauline Wells have announced that Rayquon Brown, 29 of Canton, has been arrested and charged with murder, carrying a firearm without a license, being an armed career criminal, and conspiring to commit murder. On July 4, 2026, at approximately 5:24 AM, the Cambridge Police Department received a call from pedestrians who, while out on a walk, found a man, later identified as Xavier Bautista, lying in a pool of blood in the area of Norfolk Street and Broadway Street. Rayquon Brown was arraigned today at Cambridge District Court and ordered held without bail. The next date in this case is Friday, July 17, 2026. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Cambridge Police Department at (617) 349-3300. In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy this month, the Cambridge STEAM Initiative is also celebrating the life and legacy of Bob Moses, local civil rights activist and founder of The Algebra Project. The STEAM Initiative is co-leading a Math is a Civil Right movement alongside the Cambridge Public Schools Math Department and The Young People’s Project to advance Bob Moses’s belief that math is a civil right

Effective Oct. 1, 2016, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts prohibits discrimination based on gender identity in places of Public Accommodation. A place of public accommodation as defined in M.G.L.c. 272 92A includes any place open to and serving the public. This training details how businesses can comply with the state’s gender identity non-discrimination law in places of public accommodation. In addition, the training covers best practices for maintaining inclusive environments regardless of one’s gender identity.

The Cambridge Police Department has a number of unique volunteer and employment programs designed specifically for young residents interested in a career in public safety. Through four primary programs —Youth Public Safety Academy, Explorers Program, Youth Police Academy and the Cadet Program — Cambridge youth ages 8-23 years old have several opportunities to gain exposure within the department by meeting with officers, receiving classroom training, gaining hands-on experience, and obtaining valuable leadership skills.

Ayah Al-Zubi is serving her first term on the Cambridge City Council as the youngest Councillor in the City's history. She moved around a lot growing up, landing in Cambridge for college which has now become home. She is a graduate of Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. She is a Muslim Arab woman who rents in the city and understands the difficulty of trying to get by.

CDC Director Rochelle P. Walensky, M.D., M.P.H., endorsed the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ (ACIP) recommendation for a booster shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in certain populations and also recommended a booster dose for those in high risk occupational and institutional settings. The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) authorization and CDC’s guidance for use are important steps forward as we work to stay ahead of the virus and keep Americans safe.
