City of Cambridge Domestic and Gender-Based Violence Prevention Initiative and Transition House to hold Virtual Summit Beyond Survivors and Abusers Reframing Domestic Violence October 28

The City of Cambridge Domestic and Gender-Based Violence Prevention Initiative and Transition House are holding a virtual summit, "Beyond Survivors and Abusers: Reframing Domestic Violence" on Thursday October 28, from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Friday October 29 from 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

This program, which is intended for those working on creating supportive systems of care for anyone involved in domestic violence, will offer a collaborative learning space where participants will explore:

• what it means to center the voices and experiences of those who are most impacted by violence;
• what happens when the broader community takes ownership of the problem and solutions to domestic violence; and
• how do we work toward community awareness and action to close persistent gaps.

“Domestic violence is an issue that threads as deeply into our society as it does into family structures,” said Shameka Gregory, Director of Equity and Justice at Transition House. “We have historically approached domestic violence in siloed and piecemeal ways resulting in losing sight of that thread. We are pulling together speakers with immense experience and skill in the areas of domestic violence, restorative justice, anti-carceral work, intimate partner abuse education programs, public health, and others to do a deep dive on the issue. We will come together to examine the full picture of domestic violence including impacts on families, community, and society, so we can gain the wisdom to create the change we need.”
