The Community Development Department (CDD) is currently accepting applications to the 2020 Small Business Challenge! The Small Business Challenge invites groups of local businesses and business associations to propose projects that bring together neighborhood business interests and invigorate their commercial district through improved design, enhanced marketing and promotion, and business resilience.

Small Business Challenge project proposals can relate to:

  • Neighborhood Tourism / Events Planning - Work with staff from various departments or the Cambridge Office of Tourism to create one-time promotional marketing materials or events around a shared vision for your business district.
  • Placemaking - Work with CDD's Economic Development Division and DPW staff to install decorative or interactive elements that emphasize the unique cultural or commercial assets of your business district.
  • Technology and Skill Training - Partner with local experts to enhance the skills of your businesses or local business association related to sales, business efficiency, online marketing, social media strategies, and more.

Winning project proposals will receive a one-time grant of up to $5,000 for project implementation. View a list of past Small Business Challenge projects
