Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui, the Cambridge Public Health Department, and the Cambridge Food Heroes Committee awarded the 2020 Cambridge Food Hero Awards to community members, businesses and organizations who have worked to reduce hunger, increase access to good food, support local farms and so much more.
This year’s award ceremony was celebrated virtually through Zoom, with nearly 70 participants in attendance. Cambridge Community Television also made it possible to watch the program on Cambridge television channel 09 and on their Facebook and YouTube Live channels.
"The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated many of our City’s fault lines, including who has access to food and to how much of it. The organizations, people and businesses here today committed themselves to these principles long before the pandemic began and have pushed themselves even further to support their community during these difficult times," said Mayor Siddiqui. "I am incredibly grateful for their hard work, determination and passion to sustain our City, and feed our children and our community, all while supporting local farms and each other along the way."
This year’s Cambridge Food Heroes include a greater variety of food heroes than years past, including people in every corner of the Cambridge community –from schools, churches, businesses, organizations and individuals. It took a village to push through this year, and that was reflective of this year’s diverse group of awardees.
