Disability Reframed: A Community Film Series & ReelAbilities Boston co-host a screening of Stand Clear of the Closing Doors

View, download and share the flyer for this event!

We are very pleased to be partnering with ReelAbilities Boston Film Festival again in 2015 for a free screening of Stand Clear of the Closing Doors. This award-winning film features Ricky, a 13-year-old boy with autism, who lives in Rockaway Beach with his family. His mother, Mariana, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, works long days; Ricky, deeply imaginative but painfully isolated, struggles to cope. One day Mariana yells at Ricky for skipping school and, in a panic, he escapes into the New York City subway system. Overwhelmed by his surroundings, he loses track of space and time in the massive underground labyrinth, embarking on an odyssey of self-discovery.

Following the screening, there will be a lively discussion of the film facilitated by Goldie Eder, MSW, and featuring these panelists:

* Norma Casaya, Federation for Children with Special Needs

* Joe Foley, National Geographic Traveler of the Year; and

* Andy Novis, artist and endurance athlete.

Parking in the Library garage is FREE for this event!

This is a scent-free event. Out of consideration for people with environmental illness and/or multiple chemical sensitivity, please refrain from using perfume or other scented products. For sign language interpreters or other accommodations, please contact ReelAbilities Boston by February 1 at 617-244-9899 or e-mail: info@reelboston.org.
