At the opening of the twentieth century, Massachusetts architects tried to create an authentic new look that will reflect the increasingly informal lives of their clients. Inspired by the Arts and Craft movement in England, the result was a charming style that proved especially appropriate for the rapidly expanding suburbs and vacation houses in the state.
In The Arts and Craft Houses of New England, Heli Melstner gives these homes the attention they deserve. Meticulously researched with abundant color photographs, Meltsner's is the only work focusing on the state's Arts and Craft domestic architecture and the only one to include an illustrated field. Join Heli Melstner at the Cambridge Public Library on May 21 at 6:30 p.m.
