    • On the Wall with Salina Crosby

      Central Square Branch, 45 Pearl St., Cambridge, MA 02139

      The "On the Wall Gallery" at the Central Square Branch Library provides a space for local artists to share their art with the community. This November, local artist Salina Crosby showcases her collages and mixed-media works. Artist Statement: Displayed is an exhibit of my artwork which is a reflection of my personal growth as a black woman living life graciously. The artwork includes visual expressions: collages, handmade crystal rings, mirrors of wisdom, tote bags, paintings, prints and much more. View Salina's Instagram with her works here. Works are on display on the ground floor of the Central Square Branch Library and available for viewing during the Branch's hours of operation until the end of November.       Just for you and the baby! Enjoy time together with other parents, caregivers and babies to learn, play, and develop language and motor skills. Come prepared to sit outside on the ground one-on-one with your baby in your lap. This program will be held in Joan Lorentz Park on the lawn outside the Main Library.       Put on your dancing shoes to improve flexibility and balance, strengthen muscles and have fun! Certified Zumba Gold instructor Emily B. will lead you through 45 minutes of low-impact and easy-to-follow choreography in your own home through Zoom. Join us! Separate registration is required for each session. This is a virtual event. A Zoom link will be sent to all registered participants 1 hour before the event.

      Innovators for Purpose (iFp) Studio is a teen-powered design and innovation program where teens channel their energy and creative vision to imagine and build a better world. Blending art, design, science, technology and storytelling within a social justice framework, teens engage in real-world client-sponsored projects. Mondays and Thursdays, Sept. 27 - Dec 23 (Learning Lab) Innovators for Purpose (iFp) is a Cambridge-based nonprofit that inspires high-potential, diverse young people to discover their passions, develop innovative mindsets and cultivate marketable skills to solve problems they care most about. Summer Studio teens are funded in part through the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program. The Cambridge Public Library STEAM Academy is part of Cambridge STEAM Initiative's efforts to enhance and expand students’ access to quality STEAM learning experiences. Made possible by generous support from the Eric and Jane Nord Family Fund and Verizon.

    • Poetry Reading with Indran Amirthanayagam and Dick Lourie (Main)

      Indran Amirthanayagam is the author of numerous poetry collections, including The Elephants of Reckoning (1993), Ceylon, R.I.P. (2001), The Splintered Face (2008), Uncivil War (2013), and Coconuts On Mars (2019). He writes, translates, and publishes poetry and essays in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole. His writing has appeared in the New York Times, the Kenyon Review, the New England Review, BOMB, Siempre, La Gaceta, and other magazines. Dick Lourie is both a poet and a musician whose poems have been published widely for fifty years. Lourie has performed professionally for a half-century on sax, trumpet and guitar, playing blues, jazz, and traditional American songs. His new collection, Jam Session and Other Poems (2021), is built around his determination to fuse his poems and his music into one creative work.
