"Morning Market: The Work of Women," by Cambridge atist Lori Lander, is a celebration of women at work in daily markets across several continents. This exhibition of 12 oil paintings will be on display at the Main Library, from October 15 through November 15.
The opening reception will take place on Thursday, October 20, from 4-6 p.m. in the Community Room. Lander will give a lecture on Monday, November 7, from 5-6 p.m., in the Lecture Hall. Innovators for Purpose (iFp) Studio is a teen-powered design and innovation program where teens channel their energy and creative vision to imagine and build a better world. Blending art, design, science, technology, and storytelling within a social justice framework, teens engage in real-world client-sponsored projects.
Innovators for Purpose (iFp) is a Cambridge-based nonprofit that inspires high-potential, diverse young people to discover their passions, develop innovative mindsets and cultivate marketable skills to solve problems they care most about. Summer Studio teens are funded in part through the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program. The Cambridge Public Library STEAM Academy is part of Cambridge STEAM Initiative's efforts to enhance and expand students’ access to quality STEAM learning experiences. Join local designer Lenni Armstrong in designing and sewing a vest. Participants will create a customized garment using trimmings which may include bias tape, buttons, edging, and hand-cut high-visibility reflective designs. This is an intermediate level workshop. Previous sewing experience recommended as this workshop will not cover basic sewing. Registration is required.
Please note: This workshop does not fulfill the requirements of Sewing 101. Completion of Sewing 101 is required to book sewing machines in The Hive for independent use during Equipment & Studio Reservations.
