    • Creative Aging: Visual Life History (Main)

      Cambridge Public Library's Creative Aging series offers adults 55+ opportunities to learn new skills and to further develop the library as a center for lifelong learning. It will additionally provide participants a chance to make new connections with other community members. Learn the basics of life history interviewing and turn these into beautiful works of art to reflect the lives of our fellow community members using clay, journaling, collage and mixed media. The 8-week course will occur every Monday,10am - noon, starting October 17 through December 5. This will be an in-person program at the Main Library. Space is limited to 20 participants. Due to the popularity and to gain the most out of this program, we expect all participants to commit to all sessions in this 8-week course.       Join us for a relaxing walk of Fresh Pond with Park Ranger Tim Puopolo! No two weeks are the same in nature, and Tim will share his insights about what's growing, changing, and blooming in the neighborhood. The walk will meet in the courtyard of the Collins Branch (64 Aberdeen Ave.) and leave together towards the pond at 10:15am.       Participatory Budgeting is a democratic process that empowers community members to decide how to spend part of a public budget. In June and July 2022, community members submitted 1,320 ideas on how to spend $1 million of the City of Cambridge’s FY24 Capital Budget.

      Innovators for Purpose (iFp) Studio is a teen-powered design and innovation program where teens channel their energy and creative vision to imagine and build a better world. Blending art, design, science, technology, and storytelling within a social justice framework, teens engage in real-world client-sponsored projects. Innovators for Purpose (iFp) is a Cambridge-based nonprofit that inspires high-potential, diverse young people to discover their passions, develop innovative mindsets and cultivate marketable skills to solve problems they care most about. Summer Studio teens are funded in part through the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program. The Cambridge Public Library STEAM Academy is part of Cambridge STEAM Initiative's efforts to enhance and expand students’ access to quality STEAM learning experiences. With a badge, you can reserve the Epilog Zing to use on our equipment booking page at designated times. Note: The Epilog Zing laser cutter and Glowforge laser cutter require separate trainings. You must participate in the Glowforge workshop in order to operate our Glowforge Pro laser cutter. You must complete Hive Safety Training before registering for this workshop.
