    • STEAM Academy: Innovators for Purpose Summer Studio

      Innovators for Purpose (iFp) Studio is a teen-powered design and innovation program where teens channel their energy and creative vision to imagine and build a better world. Blending art, design, science, technology and storytelling within a social justice framework, teens engage in real-world client-sponsored projects. July 5 - August 11, weekdays from 9:15am-3:30pm at the Main Library Innovators for Purpose (iFp) is a Cambridge-based nonprofit that inspires high-potential, diverse young people to discover their passions, develop innovative mindsets and cultivate marketable skills to solve problems they care most about. Summer Studio teens are funded in part through the Mayor's Summer Youth Program. The Cambridge Public Library STEAM Academy is part Cambridge STEAM Initiative's efforts to enhance and expand students’ access to quality STEAM learning experiences. Made possible by generous support from the Eric and Jane Nord Family Fund and Verizon.

    • Cambridge Plays - Gentle Yoga by five doors health and wellness

      Put on your dancing shoes and head over for a morning of singing and dancing! We'll sing and move together, and share a story or two. For children of all ages and their grown-ups. This program will take place in the Community Room at the Valente Branch Library. If the weather is particularly fine, the program may move outside to the Valente Reading Garden on Berkshire Street.       We invite children and their caregivers for 20-25 minutes of stories and songs. Children ages 2-3 and their caregivers. This program can accommodate 45 people. Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis on the day of the program. The entire party must be present to receive a ticket. This program starts promptly.     • 3D Printing 101: Game Piece Design

      Learn how to create your favorite game piece in digital space and print it out using our Sindoh 3D printers. Before taking this workshop: Complete Hive Safety Training Create a free Tinkercad account at www.tinkercad.com You will get hands-on experience running the 3D printer, gain fundamental 3D modeling skills using Tinkercad, and earn your 3D Printing badge for future reservations in The Hive. Create a Tinkercad account at www.tinkercad.com prior to arriving. Parents may need to assist users under the age of 18 to create an account prior to arriving. You must complete Hive Safety Training before registering for this workshop.

    • Pop-Up: Creative Coding

      Join us to play with craft materials and get a sneak preview of a creative coding app with your family. OctoStudio is a free coding app project in development at MIT Media Lab’s LifeLong Kindergarten Group (the same group who developed Scratch coding!) It encourages children and families to create and share stories and games. With the app, children can add photos and sounds from their environment, or integrate their creations into their physical world! This workshop is designed for children ages 7-10 and their families.
