    • STEAM Academy: Innovators for Purpose Summer Studio

      Innovators for Purpose (iFp) Studio is a teen-powered design and innovation program where teens channel their energy and creative vision to imagine and build a better world. Blending art, design, science, technology and storytelling within a social justice framework, teens engage in real-world client-sponsored projects. July 5 - August 11, weekdays from 9:15am-3:30pm at the Main Library Innovators for Purpose (iFp) is a Cambridge-based nonprofit that inspires high-potential, diverse young people to discover their passions, develop innovative mindsets and cultivate marketable skills to solve problems they care most about. Summer Studio teens are funded in part through the Mayor's Summer Youth Program. The Cambridge Public Library STEAM Academy is part Cambridge STEAM Initiative's efforts to enhance and expand students’ access to quality STEAM learning experiences. Made possible by generous support from the Eric and Jane Nord Family Fund and Verizon.

Drop-in sessions will be limited to 30-minutes for each patron. A laptop will be available for use during the session.       Dance your spirit! Have Fun! Dance is a very primal form communication. It's something very deeply rooted in us. This is what Wyoma shares through this participatory presentation of traditional Afrikan dance and culture to families. For children of all ages and their caregivers. This performance will be outdoors. In case of inclement weather it will be moved to August 10 at 2 p.m. Funding for Summer Reading has been generously provided by the City of Cambridge, Cambridge Public Library Foundation, Friends of the Cambridge Public Library, the East Cambridge Savings Bank and Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

    • Glowforge 101: Creative Laser Cutting (Main)

      Learn how to cut, engrave, and shape designs from a variety of materials using the Glowforge Pro laser cutter in this workshop. This two-hour workshop replaces the previous two-part Glowforge 101 offering; the content and length of this workshop and the two-part series are the same. You will start by utilizing the camera on the Glowforge to focus and scan your own custom images, properly select materials for your project, and fabricate your first design. You will create digital artwork for the Glowforge, and learn file formatting for production. Note: This is a badging course for laser cutting.
