      Otha Day presents his signature "DrumToTheBeat: Drum Circle and Rhythm Event". This fully participatory program is especially for the very young. Otha leads intergenerational, fun and lively drum circle events from the core belief that rhythm can build community, promote well-being and create joy. He supports participants as they learn about the importance of rhythm in all aspects of life while taking part in activities and experiences, showing them that their "heartbeat and breath are the rhythms of the soul and the pathways of connection to everyone." Recommended for children ages 3-6 and their caregivers.

Before taking this workshop: Complete Hive Safety Training Create a free Tinkercad account at www.tinkercad.com You will get hands-on experience running the 3D printer, gain fundamental 3D modeling skills using Tinkercad, and earn your 3D Printing badge for future reservations in The Hive. Create a Tinkercad account at www.tinkercad.com prior to arriving. Parents may need to assist users under the age of 18 to create an account prior to arriving. You must complete Hive Safety Training before registering for this workshop.

      Innovators for Purpose (iFp) Labs starts with students' interest in building a better world and introduces them to the underlying science and math principles to bring their solutions to life. Youth in 7th and 8th grades are invted to join iFp on a journey into the world of artificial intelligence with 'Smart Cars AI: Driving Innovation for All.' This 13-week adventure invites you to dive into the world of self-driving cars, at the intersection of technology and innovation Innovators for Purpose (iFp) is a Cambridge-based nonprofit that inspires high-potential, diverse young people to discover their passions, develop innovative mindsets and cultivate marketable skills to solve problems they care most about. Summer Studio teens are funded in part through the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program. The Cambridge Public Library STEAM Academy is part of Cambridge STEAM Initiative's efforts to enhance and expand students’ access to quality STEAM learning experiences. Made possible by generous support from the Eric and Jane Nord Family Fund and Verizon. Teens in 7th and 8th grade are invited to learn more and apply on the iFp website: Innovators for Purpose.

      Join URSULA VILLARREAL-MOURA, the author of the debut novel Like Happiness, for a reading and conversation moderated by ELIZABETH GONZALEZ JAMES, author of The Bullet Swallower. Called "memorable and incisive" by Kirkus and "accomplished" by Publisher's Weekly, Villarreal-Moura's Like Happiness is an epistolary novel spanning time and space and, according to Xochitl Gonzalez, is the "perfect book to recommend for both Sunday reads and subway commutes." Porter Square Books will be onsite selling copies of Like Happiness. This event is cosponsored by the Cambridge Public Library Foundation.

      This week's selection: Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness Reading Interests: We concentrate on Great Books in the following areas: a long novel over the summer, two sections of poetry and short stories, a book of the Bible, a Shakespeare play, an ancient and modern drama, a work of science, a smaller work of fiction, an even smaller work of fiction, and a rotating mix of politics, philosophy, and religion. Authors read in the past five years include Dickens, Keats and Yeats, O'Connor and Munro, Ecclesiastes, Sophocles and August Wilson, Darwin, Austen, Duras, The Federalist Papers, and Arendt. How to get the print book: Copies of the reading are set aside at the Main Library. Visit the Main Library at 449 Broadway during current service hours and a staff member can help you get a copy.
