The Capital Building Projects (CBP) Department, established in FY24, manages planning, design, and construction projects to support the City's portfolio of 60+ municipal and school buildings. Working closely with other City departments, design teams, and contractors, CBP ensures that projects align with the City’s strategic goals while delivering high-performing facilities for staff, occupants, the public, and the broader environment.
The department oversees a wide range and scale of projects across Cambridge’s municipal building portfolio, including renovations and upgrades to Public Works facilities, youth centers, branch libraries, fire stations, and City offices. This work focuses on energy efficiency, emissions reduction, resilience, historic preservation, life safety, accessibility, and indoor environmental quality—all while supporting the City’s strategic priorities and initiatives.
In addition to major projects like the Tobin Montessori & Vassal Lane Upper Schools and the Fire Department Headquarters renovation, the department’s comprehensive work ensures that Cambridge’s municipal buildings remain functional, sustainable, and welcoming for all.
