Three Alarms on Chester Street in North Cambridge

Three alarms were ordered, Box 3-721, on January 2nd, 2024 shortly before 5 a.m., for the fire in the multiple residence at 15 Chester Street in North Cambridge. Arriving with heavy fire showing from windows, the fire in this 30 unit apt building was quickly contained & extinguished while simultaneously firefighters completed searches on all floors for occupants inside the building.

Many residents were notified by the building fire alarm system and self-evacuated. Several residents were rescued by firefighters, one via aerial ladder, but sadly one resident perished from injuries at the fire. One firefigher was treated and transported to a medical facility for non-life-threatening injury.

 

Approximately 65 Firefighters from 9 engines, 5 ladders, 3 squads, the Rescue, & command & support units operated at the fire. Somerville Fire Department companies also assisted at the fire.
Several residents have been displaced and were in the care of the American Red Cross & City of Cambridge assets. Cambridge Police, Professional Ambulance, Inspectional Services, Boston Sparks Rehab Unit, Massacusetts Department of Fire Services, the State Fire Marshal's office, and other agencies asssited on scene.

 

The cause and origin is under investigation.
