Director of Libraries Dr. Maria McCauley and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth Salim celebrated a special rite of passage with Amigos School Kindergarteners today: becoming old enough to get your own Library Card. With support from Cambridge Mayor E. Denise Simmons, Cambridge libraries and schools worked with Behavioral Policy experts from the Harvard Kennedy School to redesign the administrative procedure for offering library cards to public schools students. In its first year, the new process resulted in nearly doubling the number of CPS Kindergarteners to hold library cards, from about 50% in 2016 to 94% as of December 2017. Photo: CPS / Bethany Versoy
