Library Expands Tech Takeout Service

Students and Staff Tech Goes Home

On Tuesday, December 20 the Cambridge Public Library will add more hotspots to the existing Takeout Technology program. Through generous funding from the Friends of the Cambridge Public Library, 40 new hotspots will be available across all Library locations.

“Internet access opens a whole world of information,” Director of Libraries, Dr. Maria McCauley said. “We advocate for more equitable access to technology. We are thrilled to have the Friends of the Cambridge Public Library expand the reach of this program.”

The Library launched its Takeout Technology program in August 2020 to extend access to technology resources during the Covid-19 public health crisis. Since the program was launched, the library has continued to expand its offerings. This latest phase will increase the number of circulating hotspots.

The first batch of additional mobile hotspots will be available at the Main Library starting Tuesday, December 20. Branch libraries will receive additional mobile hotspots soon after. The Library plans to further extend the Takeout Technology program throughout 2023.
