Our Merlin Missions book group is for Magic Tree House fans ages 5-10 who are ready for these longer adventures about Jack and Annie! Join us for stories, songs and a craft celebrating cats, dogs and less common pets. Recommended for children ages 3-7 and their caregivers.

In March 2024, the City Council passed Policy Order 2024 #37, which asked the Community Development Department “to work with the chairs of the Housing Committee to create zoning language that effectively promotes multifamily housing, including income-restricted affordable housing with the goal of having viable housing for everyone especially lower-income residents.” A series of Housing Committee meetings will be held to discuss the proposal throughout the summer and fall of 2024. Additional information will be posted here as the proposal is developed.

The Cambridge Public Health Department (CPHD) recently identified 32 cases likely connected to a children’s summer program in Cambridge. Of these cases, 20 were among students attending the program (all under age12); 3 were among staff and interns; and 9 were among household contacts of staff and students. Children and staff in the summer program were following proper mitigation measures, including wearing masks and washing their hands frequently. Several cases associated with the cluster were sequenced and identified as Delta variant cases.

The climate is changing, and we're all here on the planet together. Join us for a monthly community gathering and discussion of a variety of books about climate change. We will share thoughts, resources, and occasionally host special guests in a welcoming small-group environment. Our November book is Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler. Copies are available to pick up at the Q&A desk at the Main Library, on the Libby app, and immediately on the Hoopla app. This is a hybrid event. This week's selection: Harriet Jacobs, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl Reading Interests: We concentrate on Great Books in the following areas: a long novel over the summer, two sections of poetry and short stories, a book of the Bible, a Shakespeare play, an ancient and modern drama, a work of science, a smaller work of fiction, an even smaller work of fiction, and a rotating mix of politics, philosophy, and religion. Authors read in the past five years include Dickens, Keats and Yeats, O'Connor and Munro, Ecclesiastes, Sophocles and August Wilson, Darwin, Austen, Duras, The Federalist Papers, and Arendt. How to get the print book: Copies of the reading are set aside at the Main Library. Visit the Main Library at 449 Broadway during current service hours and a staff member can help you get a copy. This publication is mailed to Cambridge residential households twice annually, generally in June and November. The summer issue highlights key City initiatives for the FY24 fiscal year from July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024.

Many of the parks in Mid-Cambridge will soon need repair or replacement. We would like to work together with neighbors to create a plan for these parks and open spaces. By working together, we can make sure future park updates and plans meet the needs of our community & neighborhood.
