The Cambridge Police Department continues to closely monitor the ongoing Israel/Hamas conflict overseas including the cease-fire negotiations underway now. In our initial alert last month, we relayed how we have been working with our state and federal partners. Currently, there continue to be no specific or credible threats in our area. In recent weeks, CPD has received reports of hate crime incidents. We are committed to safeguarding the state and federal civil rights of all individuals irrespective of their race, color, religion, national origin, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, or gender, and to aggressively investigating any reported acts or threats of violence, property damage, harassment, intimidation, or other crimes that appear motivated by bias against or hatred of a particular group. If you believe you, your business or organization has been the victim of a hate crime in Cambridge, please contact the Cambridge Police Department. The Cambridge Police will fully investigate, document, and respond to all allegations of bias or hate-motivated crime. We recognize this is a time of grief, uncertainty, and increased tension. The City of Cambridge is notifying residents, businesses, and visitors of upcoming street closures, construction, and traffic impacts in late August and early September for back-to-school, the Feast of Saints Cosmas and Damian, and two other community events.

During the Fire Headquarters renovation, expected to be completed in 2026, firefighters will move into Station 10, a temporary fire facility located at 15 Hovey Avenue (across from Spaulding Hospital) and administration staff will relocate to 23 Bay Street.  

Coming soon, the Community Development Department is excited to present draft citywide urban design guidelines for Cambridge. Join us in March and April for an open house and exhibition to review the draft guidelines and provide feedback.

CHRC, which was established in 1984, is dedicated to upholding and safeguarding the fundamental human rights of residents and visitors to the city. CHRC works to eradicate discrimination through an investigative process, proactive community outreach, and collaborations with City and community partners.

The funding process will result in the awarding of grants of up to $6,000 per eligible applicant, which will not have to be repaid. Grant applications will only be accepted from April 14, 2021 until May 7, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. 

The City of Cambridge offers free weekly curbside textiles collection, as well as drop-off bins at select locations. To schedule your free pick-up, use the Clothing/Textiles Collection tool below. Approximately, 95% of textiles and accessories could be reused/repurposed. This initiative supports the city's goals of reducing waste and is launched in accordance with recommendations from the City's Zero Waste Master Plan.

More than five acres of new and renovated public open space will be created in Kendall Square and Eastern Cambridge over the next few years. The Eastern Cambridge Kendall Square Open Space (ECKOS) Planning Study is working to shape these new parks.

Join the City of Cambridge Department of Veterans Services (DVS) for a ceremony honoring military members lost in maritime battles and disasters. The observance will include a flower release, a moment of silence, and a recording of the United States Naval Academy Choir.
