The Advisory Committee will support the Department of Veterans Service in fulfilling part of its purpose to provide information to persons who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces of the United States, and their families concerning their rights and privileges under federal, state, and local laws;

The Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) offers summer programs to Cambridge children and youth currently in Kindergarten through 8th grade. Activities include art, sports, swimming, field trips, and more. All DHSP summer camps and programs are filled through a lottery process. The deadline to apply to the 2025 DHSP Summer Lottery application is Monday, March 9.

Diversion allows a young person the opportunity to complete an individually-tailored program in lieu of prosecution and may include conditions such as educational programs, counseling, community service, working with housing, letters of apology, and restitution.

The City of Cambridge's 2023 Annual Martin Luther King Day Commemoration and Remembrance will take place on Monday, January 16 at 11 AM at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Central Square. It will feature readings, music, remarks from Gail Packer, and a community lunch.

This summer, more than 500 Cambridge pre-teens, middle schoolers, and teens explored new interests and skills, made lasting connections with peers, and experienced joy through summer programs and internships offered through Cambridge Youth Programs (CYP), a division of the Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP).

The Housed In Cambridge online guide was developed to help residents navigate Cambridge housing and service providers, and the resources they offer. The information is organized around six key themes: affordable housing, emergency housing, housing rights, legal and mediation services, safe & healthy homes, and financial assistance.

In 2023, structural deficiencies were identified in the nine-story building at 221 Mount Auburn Street, the Riverview Condominiums. During exploratory work for roof and drainage repairs, engineers discovered that the building was not built as originally designed. To reduce the weight in the building, all residents moved out by the end of 2024. After evaluating various repair options, the Condo Association concluded that fixing the building was not feasible, and it needed to be taken down. The City worked closely with the Condo Association to review the situation and plan for demolition of the nine-story building. Demolition was completed in the spring of 2026.

Join the Cambridge Public Library in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by welcoming Alejandro Varela, the author of three books of fiction, including The Town of Babylon, which was nominated for a National Book Award, and Middle Spoon, published just this September. Middle Spoon, which Publisher's Weekly called a "refreshingly candid tale of modern love," follows a married middle-aged gay man as he struggles to move on from a break-up with his boyfriend. After reading from his work, Varela will sit in conversation with Ursula Villarreal-Moura, the author of Like Happiness. An audience Q&A and book signing will follow. Registration is required.

The Office of Workforce Development (OWD), based in the Department of Human Service Programs, offers a range of employment programs and services to hundreds of Cambridge teen and adult residents each year. These resources prepare residents for employment or training by building employability skills and establishing long-term relationships through individualized support.

The Commission on Immigrant Rights and Citizenship (CIRC) created a New Resident Guide to serve as a resource for new arrivals in Cambridge. This overview provides information on key, Cambridge-specific providers in the service areas most commonly needed by new immigrants.
