Meeting minutes of the Mid Cambridge Neighborhood Conservation District Commission meeting held on July 5, 2022

This project will: Add separated bike lanes on Cambridge Street between Inman Square and Second Street, meeting the requirements of the City of Cambridge’s Cycling Safety Ordinance to build a network of separated bike lanes throughout the City; Make changes to the street to improve safety for all users, including for people walking, biking, taking transit, and driving; Construct new bus stops, with boarding platforms that extend further into the street, reducing bus delay and improving the experience of using and waiting for the bus.

Undertakes or recommends programs to correct, improve or coordinate the protection of consumers in the marketplace.

The Community Development Department (CDD) is leading a community process to update zoning for Central Square. Zoning is the set of rules that control the allowed shape, density, and use of the property, and the goal of this update is to allow for and encourage the continued growth, redevelopment, and evolution of the district. Guided by community goals identified in prior planning efforts, zoning recommendations will focus on - increasing housing, - creating public spaces to build community, and - supporting our diverse retail, cultural, and non-profit community.

The City is working to ensure that our streets are being used in the most efficient way possible as we all work together to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The new Tobin Montessori and Darby Vassall Upper Schools and Community Complex features three mosaic murals that bring color, connection, and meaning to the school environment. Funded through Cambridge's Percent-for-Art Ordinance and commissioned by Cambridge Arts, the works by artists Andromeda Lisle, Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya, and Ekua Holmes celebrate themes of community, memory, and belonging. Developed in collaboration with the school community, architects, the project team, and fabricator Mosaika Art & Design, the murals serve as both inspiration and teaching tools for the school community.

The Budget Office will host two community engagement events in February to help residents understand how the City’s budget works, how community input shapes budget decisions, and how the community can meaningfully participate in the budget process - both now and in future cycles.
